How To Get The Most Out Of Your Ink Cartridge

With the prices of new ink cartridges skyrocketing these days everyone and their brother is trying to find the most effective ways to reduce the amount of ink they use and extend the life of their ink cartridge for as long as humanly possible. Very few people can afford to spend enough money on ink to buy their printers several times over each year, so in the interests of encouraging people to save money and conserve resources here are several helpful tips to help extend the life of your ink cartridge.

To begin with, start with basic procedures that will reduce the amount of ink that you waste. For example, before you print off anything at all always remember to take a moment to review it in print preview. This might sound like a waste of valuable time, but a simple preview can help you find mistakes and correct them before you waste ink and paper on a reprint.

It is also important to only print off exactly what you are looking for on a page and exclude anything unnecessary. If you only want a paragraph from a page, use the copy and paste function to print only that paragraph, don’t waste ink on everything else. If you do have to waste ink, make sure to set the printer on the “draft” setting (or to 300dpi if your printer does not have a draft setting) to spread out and reduce the amount of ink used in printing. It may also be worthwhile to manually reduce the density of your print jobs in the “Advanced” tab on your control panel.

It is not necessary to do a large and colorful print job, but a small picture or test will help test out each different ink color and prevent them from drying up from disuse. And last, but not least, always try to use black ink whenever possible!
